Playing the Maniac in Texas Hold'em
Who is a Maniac?
Maniac :
- a player who is both loose and aggressive.
- putting maximum pressure on every pot
- taking a "check" as an exhortation for him to bet
Theres different kind of Maniacs:
- True manic - raise and re-raise repeatedly regardless of how strong their hand is, extremely aggressive on all streets, their play is more like lottery.
- Action junkie - a player who loves to be involved in hands, betting and raising. The difference from true maniac is that they really try to play the game properly.
- Wild/drunk player - trying to play good poker ( they think they do ), their judgement isnt as it shld be.
- Steamer - a player who is playing too loose and aggressive because they on tilt, they will play many hands and raise aggressively trying to win cash back they lost
- Bulldozer - keep betting until they meet resistance regardless of what they have, but if you push back hard enough they will fold if they have a weak hand
- One-street maniac - only loose and aggressive on one particular street
- Shark in disguise - a strong player who appears to be a maniac or at least loose aggressive, they will raise alot pre flop and put a lot of pressure on you after flop.
The question is how to play them?
When a loose-aggressive player take charge of the game, the game turns upside down, you lose control of the game, your reads and instincts, and calling hands you never would do usually with raised and reraised pots.
The best way is to wait till you get a great hand, once you got one, trap him!
Dont reraise with it, just call, time it out a bit, then call again, the maniac will bet big and try to bluff their entire stack to you. This is want you want, and hes yours!
But be careful sometimes they do have a great hand wich can be a danger.

If you have a strong hand you got em. That's why no one is a maniac for ever, maniacs normally are those players that are tilt, and if they weren't they would have another poker personalty / profile.
A tight agressive player can become a maniac going loose since he lost last hand against a badbeat.
etc.
